Sonic Boom

Sonic booooom

On Saturday 19th May 2007, Ghosttown Promotions hosted an array of experimental and electronica music at Coventry's leading international live music venue, Taylor John's House. It was open for twelve hours in order to celebrate the one year anniversary of 'Soundscape' a small experimental live music event that delved into the unknown and underground scene of boundary breaking music.

ROBERT LOGAN not only brought Ex- Bond Girl and Supermodel Grace Jones to the Sonic Boom! event and have her perform but he has recently worked on her album and worked with Brian Eno. A 19-year-old whose dense asymmetrical live electronics resemble Photek or Ken Ishii in their patterns and ability to shake the speakers. Having also performed at Venn Festival this year, Robert has been composing for a number of years, resulting in a debut. Cognessence shows the confidence of his production and the intelligent fusion of 0influences from folk, medieval and classical to krautrock and electronica. He blends acoustic and electronic instruments and sound sources including voices, field recordings and a hungarian cimbalom, and has developed an intuitive and fluid use of digital production tools through which he squeezes, teases and shapes this material.
"..having already contributed to grace Jones' new album (this) teenagers thoughts (and music) is pretty black plunging in sombre arcs from all angles...verstaile and imaginative, Logan is a prodigy." ( The Wire)

A-list endorsement of Coventry mini-festival

An experimental mini-festival at Coventry's Canal Basin received an unexpected but welcome guest on Saturday 19 May when world renowned musician and actress Grace Jones arrived in support of the newly acclaimed musician Robert Logan.

The all-day event called 'Sonic Boom', organised by Coventry's GhostTown Promotions and held at Taylor John's House nightclub, hosted a wide range of local artists showcasing the city's experimental music scene.

The highlight of the night was local scene-setters, 91db who provided an exceptional performance of live drum and bass that incorporated elements of R and B, soul and hip-hop.

With an ever growing reputation for their performances, 91db are rapidly becoming Coventry's next star group, especially at a time when the music industry has become, once again, interested in Coventry's musicians.

Other acts included Leamington Spa's jazz experimental trio Paris and his Salon, the dark electronica laptopist Hector Osbert, Bass Clef, MisterLee, Black Carrot, Snorkel and Vagrant Genius. Local artist, Akeel Habib, also produced live visuals as an atmospheric backdrop to the performances.

Jenna Jones, founder of GhostTown Promotions, said
"It was fantastic to get such an eclectic mix of artists performing in the same venue and on the same day. We've been showcasing Coventry's rising stars for a year now and this was an amazing way to celebrate GhostTown's first birthday. Events like this support local musicians and bring new shows to the city and I'd encourage everyone to get involved and listen to something a bit different."

Ghosttown Promotions organises high profile shows that bring artists into Coventry and promote the city as a touring location to renowned artists while supporting local musicians.
